Analysis of COKE Gas APPLICATION # 120
The Analysis The GC is configured for the analysis of H2, O2, N2, CH4, CO, CO2, C2H4, C2H6, and C3H8. Additionally, the GC will analyze for H2S and COS if present. The limit of sensitivity for H2S analysis in this system is about 0.10%. The GC is also configured to elute benzene in approximately 16 minutes.
How It
Works The GC is configured with two automated multiport valves. At the moment of injection, the sample is injected to two separate column trains. One micropacked column will separate H2, O2, N2, CH4, CO. The second column is a capillary column which will separate air (N2, O2, and CH4) from the remaining components: C2 hydrocarbons, H2S, COS, and C3H8 hydrocarbons. The composite peak is not integrated. After the elution of propane, it is possible to heat the column oven to 200C and elute butanes and benzene. If this option is not exercised, these components will be backflushed to vent. The length of the columns has been chosen so as to send the components from each column to the detector, sequentially and without interference.
