Analysis of Impurities in Butene-1 APPLICATION # 160
The Analysis This GC is used to separate and analyze the following components in butene-1: methane, ethane, ethylene, propane, propylene, isobutane, n-butane, propadiene, trans-2-butene, 1-butene, isobutylene, cis-2-butene, 1,3 butadiene, 1-hexene, n-heptane, n-octane, n-nonane, and n-decane. Components such as heptane and higher boilers are analyzed as a composite peak. All components can be detected to 10 ppm (v/v). Maximum concentration of a component is 95%.
How It Works The GC is configured to receive the liquid sample directly from the pressurized sample container. When the valve is actuated, the sample is introduced into the splitter injector and the thick film column. The lighter components emerge from the mega-bore column in 2.5 minutes and enter the plot column, where the lightest components are separated. Compounds heavier than hexene-1 are back-flushed early to the FID detector for analysis.
