Determination of C1 to C4 Alcohols and MTBE in Gasoline (ASTM D-4815)

APPLICATION # 270

The Analysis

This GC is configured for the analysis of methanol, ethanol, isopropanol, n-propanol, isobutanol, sec-butanol, tert-butanol, n-butanol, and methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) in gasoline.

How It Works

The sample is injected into a polar TCEP micro-packed column, which elutes lighter hydrocarbons to vent and retains oxygenates and heavier hydrocarbons. The sample is back flushed into a non-polar column, where the alcohols and MTBE elute in boiling point order. After benzene elutes, the heavier hydrocarbons are detected by a flame ionization detector (FID)
