Job Description

Fabricates, tests, analyzes, and adjusts precision electromechanical instruments or computer controlled mechanical systems such as laboratory equipment and measurement equipment according to blueprints and other specifications, using hand tools, metalworking machines, and precision measuring and testing instruments:

Operates metalworking machines, such as bench lathe, milling machine, punch press, and drill press to fabricate housings, fittings, jigs, fixtures, and verifies dimensions, using precision measuring instruments.

Assembles wires, insulation and electrical components, such as resistors and capacitors, following method layouts, using fixtures, soldering equipment, tweezers, and hand tools.  Installs electrical assemblies and hardware in housing using hand tools and soldering equipment.

Tests assembled instruments for circuit continuity and operational reliability, using test instruments, such as multi meter, electronic voltmeter, and bridge.

Assist in planning, construction, modification and repairs to work in progress as directed by the product development staff.   

Analyzes test results and repairs or adjusts instruments according to analysis. Records test results and writes report on fabrication techniques used.  

May calibrate and repair instruments according to specifications. May specialize in assembly of prototype or production of instruments.    

May assist in customer site set up, follow inventory control and administrative procedures, provide customer support to customer inquiries on the phone or at site.   

Must have to ability to work on multiple projects and function with minimal direction and work in a tem environment or independently.  Contributes to an environment in which all team members are respected and are motivated to improve individual and team contributions to achieve desired business results.   

Internally must deal with the engineering staff regarding ideas, drawings and products as well as external contacts with customers and vendors in the development of designs or to resolve problems and provide service.  

Externally must deal with vendors and third party contractors to insure project completion, including obtaining bids for parts or subassemblies, follow up, adherence to specifications and problem resolution. 

Excellent skills including PC set up and configuration.  May assist in data acquisition. 

Highly motivated self starter with the desire and ability to quickly learn new technologies and methodologies.  Ability to analyze existing systems and come up to speed quickly.   

Excellent organization and documentation abilities in order to maintain orderly inventory control procedures and orderly parts lists procedures.  Meets objectives for cost control and budget commitments.  Maintain good degree of housekeeping throughout the facility. 

Good communication skills and creativity. 

Safety record of no reportable safety incidents.
