Natural Gas Analyzers

 

 

This analytical configuration is used   to analyze O2, N2, CH4, CO2, H2S and hydrocarbons from C1 - C20 using a TCD and FID configuration.

The instrument can accept either gas or liquid samples at ambient conditions or up to 1100 psi and the analysis is completed via micropacked and high resolution capillary columns.

This analyzer is designed to comply with the methods GPA 2261, GPA 2286, GPA 2165, GPA 2186, ASTM 1946, ASTM D2163 and ASTM D2597; all the methods can be executed in the same chromatograph.

 

 

The liquid or gas sample is injected into a multiple column system 

  1. The mixture of compounds enters a molecular sieve and porous polymer column in series. Carbon Dioxide, Ethane, and H2S are detected by TCD in about four minutes.

  2. Two modes of analysis can be selected for the remaining compounds. In one mode the compounds enter a high resolution capillary column and are detected by an FID as an extended analysis mode. In the second mode of analysis compounds C1 to C5 are separated and detected by FID, and compounds greater than C5 (C6-C15) are combined, backflushed to the FID, and detected as a composite peak. In the backflush mode the analysis is completed in approximately 12 minutes.

 

Reproducibility

The chromatographic results and the reproducibility that are currently obtained with this system have evolved since 1998 to give results that have standard deviations in the range of 0.03 - 0.36%. Better reproducibility in Natural Gas Analysis reduces the standard deviation and the statistical uncertainty associated with determination of gas heating value measured in BTUs.
